Courage & Commitment, Kia Kaha, Kia Maia

First Day…… tick!

Posted on January 31, 2017 in Hurungaterangi 4 - Stephanie Chand

The first day of school is always the hardest. What will my class be like? Will I know anyone? Will I make friends? Will I be ok? And that applies to the teacher AND the students! We have ticked off our first day and it was a goodie…. onwards and upwards for us in our year 7 learning journey.

Before the day was over, things took an unexpected turn at our year 7 assembly. Maia volunteered to lead the year 7’s in our waiata in preparation for tomorrows powhiri. She demonstrated our school motto of courage and commitment; firstly in volunteering and then in the way she persevered in getting the introduction right. Her courage and commitment was rewarded with a Principal’s Badge! This is an epic achievement and to achieve it on your very first day is legendary. Well done Maia.

It was a real honour to acknowledge Maia for her courage at our Year 7 assembly. What an awesome student role model she is going to be.
